Martin “Marty” J. Neuens graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1964. He flew 28 1/2 combat missions in F-105s in Vietnam before being shot down on August 12, 1966 and subsequently was captured as a Prisoner of War.

He was released on March 4, 1973. Upon his return to U.S. soil, at Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu, he was seen on his knees kissing the ground. Martin Nueuns retired as a Colonel after 26 years of service.
