Frederick Purrington’s was flying his 29th mission on a A-4C Skyhawk aircraft on October 20, 1966. During this mission, his aircraft was shot and he was forced to eject. Subsequently, he was captured and interned as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam.

Post Release Description
He was released from captivity on February 18, 1973. Upon his return Fredrick Purrington returned to college at Southeastern Massachusetts University. Frederick Purrington retired from the United States Navy as a Captain.
